Should Microsoft Try Restarting?

You see what I did there...

Now that I have impressed you enough, it will go down hill from now, that was a quote by Microsoft. Moving on to Windows 8, you know the program that let's you have one window open at a time. They wanted to do something different, not usual, something they thought is revolutionary to operating systems. I don't blame them on that, it's good that people are trying to reinvent the look, my self included. If you don't already know, I create concept applications, operating systems, basically any digital interfaces. That's already too much about me. Lose8... oops, win8 did not cut the brick, or cheese, um... mustard? Not sure on the allegory and why would you cut mustard? Anyways, Win8 failed on it's mission, it made using a OS worse and they are all pretty bad to start.

The direction Microsoft is going is unclear, they are just going in all different directions. Of course there are many different respects on "Windows 9", or if they are continuing with their new tradition, "Window 9". The rumors believe that Windows 9 will fall close to releasing in 2013. So why would they release a new operating system right after another, that's too Apple for them. What's with releasing an obviously unfinished Windows RT, which sounds like a very old program already, then they are on about releasing Surface Pro that has full Windows 8 support to run all of your programs. The Windows Phone 8, the one with those awfully ugly tiles which I found to be a down grade from 7, is only there for a space filler before Surface Phone. Fun fact, the name Surface came from a table they made.

Advertising, yes they have that, and everywhere. I have never seen so much pushing for a product. They had a big Windows Phone set up in a city, the have been adverting on subways, adverting on sides of buses, Google advertisements but mainly on Youtube (non of them make any sense),  TV advertisements all the time, website advertisements, and well... you get the point. They haven't worked. On a Nexus verse Surface internet traffic insight, 0.91% of internet traffic is Nexus in this test, Surface has 0.13%. To add in insult to fatal injury, the ads are pathetic.  There is no cerebral purpose to them.

What happened with Zune. I remember having one, then to set it up I had to connect to a PC. This was before I got tired of all of the updates, and service packs, and security threats, and connection issues, so I switched to Mac. The Zune did not work with my PC, it said it was not compatible. I got an iTouch the day after, that worked just fine with my PC. I think a year of two after that, they stopped making them and switched Zune as a market place for your PC, after that they turned it into a Xbox and Windows 8 feature. You may have made some crap, but at least stick by it.

Microsoft has made many bad decisions and are on the track of IBM, well, minus the lead poisoning. Microsoft still had some time left to fix things before turning into a business for businesses. Restart, they need to restart from scratch. Obviously restarting in Windows 8 would be much harder, so thankfully they would only have to do it in real life.

Starting with the operating system. Through away the one operating system fits all idea, hasn't ever been successful, so why try. Create two operating systems, that's more then one by the way. Name it like Mirror or something, but not Windows. When creating your products always remember this "Create everything with everything in mind", that is what I use when creating designs. Even before you start building the new operating system, you must do the most obvious task, hiring. Find people who have some internet prestige, who have already have liked worked. You already know they are good and people respond well with them. Do what I do, by looking at every reviewers comments, read all of the bloggers suggestions, hint, and let the community be really the creators of it.

The second operating system will be used for mobile devices. This will consist of a phone and a tablet adaption, no cross interfaces with desktops.

The hardware, with the Surface, it seems that your trying to hard to be different, like it's outright unpractical and compromised filled different. You don't have to be different, you have to be better. Different doesn't always mean better. I have a much better set up then any laptop or tablet with keyboard set up, but I am keeping that for my own stuff, as it is just better. A keyboard made out of fabric is ridiculous, why don't you make a mouse out of one, or the whole casing. What you need is a phone that calls people with out sorcery, and a tablet that isn't made out of a sorcerer's clothing. When using a tablet, I don't want to see a desktop version of anything, so why is there something very familiar with Windows 7.

What you need to also make is a desktop computer. You already have something that shows the features of the mobile OS, but now you need some hardware that show the desktop OS off the best. An all-in-one desktop, but don't design it with an abstract painting as inspiration, like you do all the rest. I know colors are coming back to computers, but they are going to go out fast, the idea will be overused then more generic colored computers will be in fashion. The computer should have sophistication with modest design cues, you don't want to be the company with the fabric airplane hat. I don't see adults with those kinds of hats, because they grown up. If you are the company with those hats, people will grow old of you and move to more appropriate ware, you see what I did there.

You may regain many of those lost perspectives when they find out that your changing the whole brand. Also, everyone I have talked to that had current Windows computers said, I'll stick with what I have now or switch to Mac.

Would you like a joke now? Microsoft only has Windows because your stuck inside, there are apples on the outside.

Please give me your take on these addressed issues or you thought on the future of Microsoft in the comments area!

I've Been Doing Some Stuff

You probably don't know, but I have been off for awhile working on a project. Yes, I actually do other things. My expertise is in UX design or interaction design, I cannot decide between which one to call it. For my off, I have been gaining more skill in UXD (User Experience Design) also while I was away. What does this mean for you, because I don't write just to explain my life in detail, I write to explain my adventures in web design, UX design, and other digital art garble. These "adventures" are not really stories, but information and hints on the matter, learn from what I have don... but I digress. I will be posting more about UX design, as it's something I have been focusing more of my life around. I will also be showing you work I have made and in some ways, showing you how to make better experience for the people who use what you create.

Here I have some old work I have made, I always hate to show these, but it fills some space.

I think this was a week ago.

Like my post and I'll give you some brownie points.

Ubuntu Software Centre Redesign - Introduction

The current design of the Ubuntu Software Centre

Later this week I will post my new look for the Ubuntu Software Centre front page. I usually can come up with a redesign in one to two days, but I want to take some time with this one. Like usual, I will post little sneak peeks while I am working. Later next year, I with to create it page by page, for a fully function web based app store. Like Apple has iTunes for web app downloads, I want to create a Ubuntu version of that. Unlike my usual designs, where they are not really functional, they work though, I want to create something my viewers can actually use to do something.

I am wanting to see if I can work with Ubuntu on it, or then I wouldn't be allowed to have it Ubuntu named.

Have started work on it by the way, and yes, this is all I do everyday.

Thunderbird Mail Redesign (Ubuntu version)

Have you seen the mail client for Ubuntu, well then you know it needs some work. This is my second shot at building a mail client, but the first one just doesn't fit my design language anymore, it looks alright, but... I digress. The new concept Thunderbird for Ubuntu is designed to be more intuitive, is just works and looks good at the same time. The current Thunderbird, looks a bit lacking in features, I would say easy-to-use, since there like three different options.

My later designs, especially for Ubuntu, are moving away from gradients, still have them, but use less of it. I believe that great design is the function, if its function is amazing, the design will follow. I don't need to gloss everything up like I use to with previous creations, but I digress.

Let's get back to Thunderbird now. On the left side of the application you have all of your emails, the more you get the will just show above the next one, the last one moves down. To refresh your mail box, just roll over the "Last updated" by the bottom and a refresh icon will show, just click it and your mail inbox will refresh. At the top, you have your account name, with a drop down menu that you can use to change account, go to chat, and other emailish options. The sort feature is just a simple tool for organizing your mail box the way you care to.

Your mail box is connected to other services, like Facebook, Twitter, Skype(if you can call it that anymore), Myspace(it's cool again), and others like. When you compose an email, you have the ability to make, let's just say, Facebook as a recipient and also add LinkedIn. You can write your text, then when you send your text, it will pop up on Facebook and LinkedIn.

All of your options on an email is at the bottom on the right. I don't need to explain what they do. Your choices of what mail box you want are at the top, next to the current one your at already. To compose an email, at the right to those options, you'll see a pen, click on that and you are in compose mode.

Current version 0.2.0

Google Search Redesign Update 2 (Preview)

I am getting a bit too exited for the next update, so I made a little sneak peek for you.

My changes and new stuff added will be posted with my next update. Not final look and I am open to stealing your ideas.

Google Search Redesign

"The web made beautiful" - my self.
"Why has no one though of this before, brilliant!" - me again.

You can see for your self the difference.

Google search, I believe, you cannot really call it visually appealing. The concept you see on the left was to introduce more color and intuitive interface. A website admin can change their appearance on the web much more with my concept then Google's. You can upload front image, as if you actually had a store and put your logo. The images would go through Google's team before it gets posted to the web. The look is also closer related to the Android interface, as you can see by the arrow next to the logos. That arrow will get you to options like, stocks, inter-search, quick links, and to report the website.

Google+ was turned more visual, I did forget to add the follow button, oops. You are able to see the profiles cover cover and profile image, and latest post from that person/organization.

Depends on what you search, but other things like Wikipedia info, related people, and other things like maps would be on the side. The bar at the bottom, stays on the screen while searching, so its easy to change pages quickly or go to links there. Also "Infinity Page" button would make all results the front page. When you click on it, results would load as you scroll, like on the new Hulu.

Web owners would be able to upload their logo and cover image if they wish, also flat colors if they want. This would increase their clicks if their do it right. If the web owner does not do those, their website would show a standard layout, that looks something like the "News for Ubuntu" area.  Like those smart people above said, its more beautiful looking.

You may have noticed that there are no "Search", "Images", and "Maps" buttons at top. Well, don't flip your car over, those have been moved to the arrow by Google. All of those will have their own icon that you see next to "Docs". On this example, you see the "Search" icon. The top bar will also host info like how many email you have, and other info like that. You Google Plus profile picture is also in the top bar, so you can easily access your Google Plus account. When you click on your name, the share button will be revealed, so you can +1 things.

Let's just say you have a slow computer, which would be a Microsoft one, and cannot support the intensity of the new visuals. Google would automatically switch your search results to a standard light version of it, probably would just check by your memory.

Please tell me what you think and some ideas, I would love to steal them.

See last post.

I have started work on the next version, I left out some ideas and want to get those in
I coerce you to give me feedback!

Whats Happening with Wix 2

My second update!

Maybe you are going to continue Flash improvement, but how about my concern for using HTML?
On all three browsers I have used to see if my accusation was true, I got this.

Why is Flash option not on top, why do I have to go to the miniscule Flash templates in the footer, seems a bit of more love for HTML. I am not opposed one bit of moving forward to HTML5, but in the editors current state, I fair much better with the ability Flash offers. Until HTML editor can size up to the ability of Flash, I should not have to feel like an inconvenient plead.

To support my inquire, please leave a comment on here (which is next to useless, if you have seen my view stats) or head over to wix.com/support/forum/flash/editor/other/why-are-you-making-creating-a-new and leave a comment.

I will keep you informed if anything occurs from this letter. Thank you
